Pokemon TCG Mega Evolution Chaos Rising - What Australian Players Need to Know

The Pokemon Company has officially revealed the next expansion in the Mega Evolution series. Mega Evolution - Chaos Rising launches worldwide on May 22, 2026, with the digital release on Pokemon TCG Live arriving a day earlier on May 21. Here's everything Australian players need to know.
What Is Mega Evolution - Chaos Rising?
Chaos Rising is the third English-language Pokemon TCG expansion of 2026, following Perfect Order which launched in March. Other upcoming sets in the pipeline include Aura Seeker, which has recently been trademarked. It continues the Mega Evolution series, drawing heavily from Pokemon Legends: Z-A.
According to the official Pokemon announcement, the set features over 120 cards in total, including more than 20 Trainer cards and over 35 cards with special illustrations of both Pokemon and Trainers. All cards are Standard Legal.
The storyline centres on Mega Floette ex wreaking havoc as night falls over Lumiose City, with other Mega Evolution Pokemon rising to defend against the threat.
Confirmed Cards and Featured Pokemon
Four headline Mega Evolution Pokemon ex have been confirmed, all making their first-ever TCG appearances from Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Here's the full breakdown of each card revealed so far.
Mega Greninja ex (022/086)
Stage 2 (evolves from Frogadier), Water type, 350 HP. The headline card of the set and the face of the Elite Trainer Box.
- Ability — Mortal Shuriken: Once per turn, if Mega Greninja ex is in the Active Spot, you can discard a basic Water Energy from your hand to place 6 damage counters on one of your opponent's Pokemon.
- Ninja Spinner (Water, Water) — 120+ damage. You may put a Water Energy attached to this Pokemon back into your hand to deal an additional 80 damage (200 total).
A Stage 2 with a built-in snipe ability and a flexible main attack. The energy recycling on Ninja Spinner pairs well with Mortal Shuriken's discard cost.
Mega Floette ex (035/086)
Basic Pokemon, Psychic type, 250 HP. The set's villain — the dangerous threat wreaking havoc in Lumiose City.
- Gentle Light (Psychic) — Heal 30 damage from each Pokemon (both yours and your opponent's).
- Eternity Bloom (Psychic, Psychic, Psychic) — 200 damage. Search your deck for up to 4 basic Psychic Energy cards and attach them to your Benched Pokemon in any way you like. Then, shuffle your deck.
The energy acceleration on Eternity Bloom is massive. Attaching up to 4 Psychic Energy from deck while dealing 200 damage could enable some powerful follow-up plays.
Mega Pyroar ex (015/086)
Stage 1 (evolves from Litleo), Fire type, 340 HP.
- Ferocious Bellow (Fire, Colourless) — 80 damage. During your opponent's next turn, attacks used by the Defending Pokemon do 50 less damage (before applying Weakness and Resistance).
- Fiery Big Bang (Fire, Fire, Colourless) — 290- damage. This attack does 10 less damage for each damage counter on this Pokemon.
A tanky beatstick at 340 HP. Ferocious Bellow's damage reduction makes Mega Pyroar ex surprisingly difficult to take down, and Fiery Big Bang hits like a truck at full health.
Mega Dragalge ex (065/086)
Dragon type, 330 HP.
- Corrosive Liquid — Attach a basic Special Energy from your discard pile to all of your opponent's Pokemon.
- Pernicious Poison — Allows your opponent's Pokemon to now become Poisoned. During Pokemon Checkup, place 14 damage counters on that Pokemon instead of the usual 1.
Mega Dragalge ex brings a unique poison-based strategy. Pernicious Poison placing 14 damage counters between turns (140 damage!) is devastating and could create an entirely new archetype.
Espurr (036/086)
Basic Pokemon, Psychic type, 60 HP.
- Buddy Attack (Colourless) — 10+ damage. If you played Emma Trainer from your hand this turn, this attack does 40 more damage.
A support Basic that hints at new Trainer card synergies in the set.
According to The Arts Shelf, the full set breakdown includes five Mega Evolution Pokemon ex, five standard Pokemon ex, 11 illustration rare Pokemon, 18 ultra rare Pokemon and Trainer cards, and six special illustration rare Pokemon and Supporter cards.
The set is numbered up to 086 for the main set, with secret rares extending beyond that. A Mega Greninja ex Secret Illustrated Rare (114/086) has been reported but not yet officially shown.

We don't yet have confirmed Australian pricing for Chaos Rising products specifically. For reference, recent Mega Evolution series Elite Trainer Boxes have been listed at Australian retailers between $100 and $120 AUD. We'll update this article with confirmed Chaos Rising pricing as Australian pre-orders open.
Pre-orders at Australian retailers typically open 4-6 weeks before release. Keep an eye on your local game store's website from mid-April onwards for Chaos Rising pre-order listings.
Prerelease Events in Australia
Play! Pokemon Prerelease tournaments run from May 9 to May 17, 2026 at participating independent retailers worldwide, including Australian stores.
Prereleases are one of the best ways to get your hands on new cards before the official launch. You'll typically receive a Build & Battle Box containing prerelease packs, a promo card, and enough cards to build a 40-card deck on the spot.
We don't have a confirmed list of Australian stores running Chaos Rising prerelease events yet. Prerelease store allocations are usually announced closer to the event date. Your best bet is to:
- Check the Pokemon Event Locator when it updates (usually 2-3 weeks before prereleases begin)
- Ask your local game store directly if they're registered for Play! Pokemon events
- Follow your local store's social media for event announcements
If you're in a major city, stores that regularly run Pokemon TCG events are your most likely prerelease hosts. You can browse Australian game stores by city on our store directory.
Australian Release and Stock Availability
Chaos Rising has a worldwide release date of May 22, 2026. This is a simultaneous global launch, so Australian players won't be waiting behind other regions.
We don't have specific details on Australian stock allocations or distribution volumes for this set. What we can say is that as the third set in the Mega Evolution series, Australian retailers will be familiar with the supply chain by now. Previous Mega Evolution sets have been available at major Australian game stores, both in-store and online.
We'll update this article as Australian retailers begin listing Chaos Rising products and stock details become clearer.
What We Don't Know Yet

- Australian RRP - No confirmed Australian retail pricing yet for Chaos Rising products
- Specific Australian prerelease locations - Event locations haven't been published yet
- Additional product types - Beyond booster packs and the ETB, further collection boxes and bundles are likely but unconfirmed
- Competitive impact - With Mega Floette ex's energy acceleration ability, this set could shift the meta significantly, but it's too early to evaluate without seeing the full card pool
We'll keep this article updated as new information drops. Bookmark this page and check back as we get closer to May.
